Intraday is a product type you pick on the order window when you want to buy and sell the same stock within the same trading day. You get extra leverage, so you need less money upfront than Delivery — but you can't hold the position beyond the day. Anything still open is squared off automatically before the market closes.
How does Intraday work?
- You choose Intraday as the product when placing the order.
- You can buy first and sell later in the day, or sell first and buy back (short selling) — short selling is only allowed as an Intraday trade. If a short can't be bought back before the close, it can become a short delivery that goes to auction.
- Because the position is meant to close the same day, it needs less margin than a Delivery trade of the same value (this is your intraday leverage — up to 5x).
- There's no interest, since nothing is carried past the day.
- Not every stock can be traded Intraday — Trade-to-Trade (T2T) stocks are delivery-only.
What happens to my position at the end of the day?
Any Intraday position you haven't closed yourself is squared off automatically near the end of the trading session, at market price, so you don't carry it overnight. You can also square it off yourself earlier at any time — and doing so avoids the auto square-off charge that applies when the system has to close the position for you. For the details, see what happens to my Intraday positions at the end of the day.
Can I hold an Intraday position for longer?
Yes — if you decide you want to keep the stock, convert the position to Delivery before it's auto squared off, as long as you have the full delivery amount for the quantity you convert. See How to convert Intraday to Delivery and vice versa?.
What are the charges?
Intraday trades are charged a low per-order brokerage (a flat per-order fee or a small percentage of turnover, whichever is lower), with no funding interest. For the exact, current numbers, see the Rupeezy pricing page.
Profits from Intraday trades are available to withdraw on T+1, the next settlement day — see when you can withdraw your intraday profit. Still deciding between products? See which product to choose — Intraday, Delivery, MTF or T+5.
