Why does Rupeezy ask for a DDPI (alternative to POA) for the demat account?

Rupeezy asks for a DDPI (Demat Debit and Pledge Instruction) so that shares can be debited from your demat account when you sell, and so that shares you buy with MTF or T+5 can be pledged automatically — without you authorising each one separately. DDPI is SEBI's replacement for the older Power of Attorney (POA), covering a narrower, defined set of purposes.

What does DDPI let Rupeezy do?

Two things:

  • Debit shares when you sell — Rupeezy debits the shares you sell from your demat account and delivers them to the exchange to settle the sale.
  • Automatically pledge MTF and T+5 purchases — MTF and T+5 are leveraged products, so the shares you buy with them aren't fully paid for. Those shares are the collateral for the funding, and DDPI lets Rupeezy pledge them in its favour automatically. You don't need DDPI to buy shares with your own money or to trade futures and options.

Do I need DDPI to pledge my shares for F&O margin?

No. That's a different kind of pledge. To get trading margin, you pledge shares you've fully paid for, and you approve each pledge yourself on NSDL's portal with an OTP — the app takes you there as part of the pledge flow. NSDL asks for your OTP so it knows the shares are being pledged to Rupeezy with your knowledge; DDPI plays no part in it. See How do I pledge or unpledge shares?

Steps to follow for DDPI (alternative to POA) submission online

  1. Log in to the mobile application.
  2. Click on "View Profile."
  3. Select the "Personal" section.
  4. Scroll down to the option "DDPI Activation."
  5. Provide your consent and enter the OTP.

After completing the above steps, the activation process may take up to 1 to 2 hours.

Steps to follow for DDPI (alternative to POA) submission offline

  1. Print the DDPI Form on simple A4 size paper.
  2. Fill details on the 1st page: name, email id, mobile no and pan card no.
  3. On the second page, do sign at client - 1st holder.
  4. One witness signature and the witness detail is required in the witness column.
