When can I use the money from a sale for my next trade?

It depends on what you sold. On Rupeezy, money from selling your delivery holdings is normally available for new trades right away, intraday profits become usable only after they settle on T+1, and the premium from options you've sold can only buy other options in the same segment until settlement. Until the exchange settles a trade, its proceeds can't be counted as margin for a fresh position.

I sold shares from my holdings — when can I trade with the money?

Right away, in most cases. When you sell delivery holdings, the shares are debited from your demat the same day and handed to the exchange under the early pay-in mechanism. Once the early pay-in goes through and the amount is allocated, 100% of the sale proceeds are available for new trades.

Withdrawing that money to your bank is a separate timeline — sale proceeds become withdrawable only after settlement, which is why your withdrawable balance can lag your tradable balance.

Why can't I use my intraday profits immediately?

Profits from intraday trades — equity, F&O, or commodity — aren't usable until the exchange settles them, which happens on T+1. Until then, the profit shows up in your account but can't fund a new position or be withdrawn.

I sold options — why can't I use the premium in another segment?

The premium you receive from selling (writing) an option can be used to buy options within the same segment straight away. To use it anywhere else — another segment, or as margin for other trades — you have to wait for the exchange settlement on T+1.

Why do these restrictions exist?

Under SEBI's upfront margin rules (circular SEBI/HO/MIRSD/DOP/CIR/P/2020/146, in force since 1 September 2020), a broker cannot give trading exposure against unsettled values — money the exchange hasn't yet paid out isn't valid margin. Rupeezy applies these rules through its RMS Policy. The settlement cycle itself is what decides when "unsettled" becomes "settled".

Things to keep in mind

  • T+1 counts trading days — a sale on Friday settles on Monday, and settlement holidays push it further.
  • Being able to trade with an amount and being able to withdraw it are different things; withdrawal always waits for settlement.
