Can I buy shares on one exchange and sell on another?

Yes. Shares you hold in your demat account aren't tied to the exchange you bought them on, so you can sell them on either NSE or BSE — just pick the exchange on the order window when you place your sell order. This works because of exchange interoperability at the clearing level, and you can switch between NSE and BSE on the order window yourself.
