Why has my blocked amount not changed when I modified my IPO bid?

Your blocked amount only updates once you approve the new UPI mandate for the modified bid — modifying the price or lot count and tapping Update doesn't change what's blocked by itself, so if you haven't approved the new mandate in your UPI app yet, you'll still see the original amount blocked.

Why is the old amount still blocked?

Modifying an application (IPOs > Applied > tap the application > Modify > update price/lot > Update) raises a fresh UPI mandate for the new amount, the same way a first-time application does. Your modification only takes effect after you approve that new mandate — until then, your original bid (and its original blocked amount) is still the one on record, so the amount you see hasn't changed.

What should I check?

  • Open your UPI app and check for a pending mandate request — approve it to complete the modification.
  • Check your bank balance. The new mandate needs enough balance to cover the increased bid when you approve it; if the balance is short, the approval fails and your application stays at the original amount. See "How to avoid IPO application rejections?" for the same balance requirement on a first-time application.
  • Confirm the application still shows your intended price/lot under IPOs > Applied — if it still shows the old values, the modification wasn't submitted successfully and you'll need to try again.

Things to keep in mind

  • You can only increase your bid when modifying, never decrease it — see "How do I modify an IPO application?".
  • Modification is only allowed within the IPO's bidding window.
