How do I get my mutual fund capital gains report on Rupeezy?

Your mutual fund capital gains sit inside the Combined Tax Reports statement on Dock. Go to Reports, then Downloads, choose Combined Tax Reports as the Statement, set the Date Range to the financial year you need, and click Email me. The report reaches your registered email in a few minutes, and the tab named Mutual Fund PNL carries the complete capital gains summary for that period.

What are capital gains on a mutual fund?

A capital gain is the profit you make when you redeem mutual fund units for more than they cost you. The gain becomes real, or realised, only when you sell. Until then it is an unrealised gain that moves with the NAV.

How the gain is taxed depends on two things: what the fund holds, and how long you held the units. Rupeezy sorts every redemption into one of four buckets:

Tax bucket Long-term after Notes
Equity 12 months Equity-oriented schemes.
Specified MF (Debt) 24 months Units bought on or after 1 April 2023 are treated as short-term however long you hold them.
Gold/Silver 24 months Units bought between 1 April 2023 and 31 March 2025 are treated as short-term however long you hold them.
Other 24 months Everything that does not fall in the three buckets above.

Anything held past the long-term threshold is a long-term capital gain (LTCG), and anything sold before it a short-term capital gain (STCG). Gains that the rules push to your income tax slab are reported separately, as Taxable Gains (as per slab rate).

What does the Rupeezy capital gains report take into account?

The report is not a plain sell-price-minus-buy-price subtraction. It applies the rules the way the tax regime requires:

  • First-in, first-out matching. Every redemption is matched against your oldest surviving units in that folio and scheme, so the holding period on each lot is the real one.
  • Grandfathering as on 31 January 2018. For equity units bought before 1 February 2018, the cost of acquisition is taken as the higher of your actual cost and the lower of the 31 January 2018 NAV or the sale value, exactly as the rule prescribes.
  • Indexation as per the current rules. Long-term gains are computed without indexation, in line with the treatment that applies to transfers made on or after 23 July 2024.
  • Union Budget provisions. The 1 April 2023 cut-off for specified mutual funds, the 1 April 2025 change for gold and silver funds, and the 23 July 2024 holding-period and indexation changes are all built into how each lot is classified.
  • Stamp duty is added to your cost. The duty deducted at purchase is loaded onto the unit cost, so your gain is not overstated.
  • Exit load is netted out of the sale value. Where an exit load was charged on a redemption, the report prices that sale on what you actually received.
  • The true dealing date, not the order date. Rupeezy recovers each transaction's dealing date from the scheme's published NAV. An order date can sit several days off the dealing day, which near the 12-month mark would flip a gain between short-term and long-term.
  • Realised and unrealised gains, side by side. You see what you booked during the year and what is still running in your holdings.

Does the report cover mutual funds I bought outside Rupeezy?

Yes, once you import them. Every mutual fund transaction you have done on Rupeezy is picked up automatically. Transactions you did on other platforms are included only after you import your external funds into the Rupeezy app, which pulls in that history and lets the report treat your whole portfolio as one.

Import your funds once and the report covers everything: schemes you bought elsewhere years ago, schemes you bought on Rupeezy last month, and every redemption across both.

How do I import my external mutual funds?

Use Track External Fund in the Mutual Funds section of the app: it fetches your holdings and their full transaction history from MF Central over a read-only, OTP-verified connection, and they flow into your Rupeezy portfolio and from there into this report. The full walkthrough is in How do I import my external mutual funds to Rupeezy?.

How do I download the capital gains report?

Your capital gains sit inside the Combined Tax Reports statement on Dock, the same file covered step by step in How to download tax P&L Reports?. Download it for the financial year you need, then open the emailed workbook and go to the Mutual Fund PNL tab for your capital gains summary covering those dates.

Things to keep in mind

  • Import first, then download. If you pull the report before importing your external funds, it will only show the mutual funds you transacted on Rupeezy.
  • Pick the financial year, not the calendar year. Indian tax years run 1 April to 31 March.
  • Check your registered email address if the report does not arrive. If it still does not turn up, write to us at support@rupeezy.in.
  • Mutual Fund PNL is one tab in the workbook. The same Combined Tax Reports file also carries your equity and derivatives gains on their own tabs, so downloading it once covers your whole tax P&L, not just mutual funds.
  • The report is a statement, not a tax filing. Use it as the input to your return, and take a tax professional's advice on your own position.
