Delisting is when a stock is removed from the stock exchange. Once delisted, it stops showing up for trading on the Rupeezy app — but it still appears in your Holdings.
What happens to a stock I hold that gets delisted?
You generally can't do much with a delisted stock unless the company relists it or announces an exit offer. Without one, that investment is usually considered a loss (or written off) — unless you're able to sell it off-market. You can still transfer the shares to another demat account, but delisted shares generally can't be gifted.
What are the types of delisting?
- Compulsory (forced) delisting — the exchange delists the stock due to non-compliance with SEBI listing requirements or other regulatory issues.
- Voluntary delisting — the company chooses to delist itself, typically as part of a corporate restructuring, and usually offers shareholders an exit or buyback window.
What if I miss the window to tender my shares in a voluntary delisting?
Promoters are still obligated to buy your shares even if you miss the tender window — typically for up to a year from the date the tender offer closes.
