Why is the price mentioned in the GTT email different from the GTT trigger price?

The trigger price is just the condition that releases your GTT order to the exchange — it isn't necessarily the price your order executes at. Once released, an SL-M leg fills at the market price, and even a Limit leg can fill at a different price than the trigger if the market has moved. A notification about the resulting order reflects that order's own price, not the original trigger price you set.

Why would these two numbers differ?

  • If the leg is Market (GTT-M), it executes at whatever price is available once triggered — that can be higher or lower than your trigger price, especially in a fast-moving market.
  • If the leg is Limit (GTT-L), it's sent to the exchange at your limit price, which you may have set away from the trigger price on purpose (the same buffer logic used to make an SL order fill like SL-M).
  • A confirmation email or notification about the order itself would naturally show that order's price — not the trigger condition that caused it to be sent.

Things to keep in mind

  • The trigger price and the order price are two different, intentional numbers in a GTT order — seeing different values isn't a sign of an error.
  • If the difference looks larger than expected, check whether the leg was Market or Limit, and what price you actually set for it.
