A GTT order is valid for 1 year from the day you create it, by default. The one exception is Intraday — a GTT on the Intraday product type expires at the end of that same day, matching the same-day nature of Intraday itself.
Why does Intraday work differently?
Intraday positions can't be carried beyond the trading day, so a GTT tied to an Intraday order wouldn't make sense to keep active any longer than that — it's cancelled at day's end if it hasn't triggered.
What happens when a GTT expires?
If the trigger condition is never met within its validity window, the GTT is marked Expired and no order is placed. You'd need to create a fresh GTT if you still want that trigger.
Things to keep in mind
- MTF, T+5, and Delivery GTTs all get the 1-year validity — only Intraday is limited to the same day.
- Check your GTT tab periodically for triggers approaching expiry if you're relying on a long-standing GTT.
