When you buy shares in Delivery, they don't appear in your Holdings the same day. They're credited to your demat account on the next trading day (T+1) — the settlement day — and show up in Holdings then.
When exactly will they appear?
On T+1, the settlement day. For example, if you buy on Monday, the shares are credited and visible in your Holdings on Tuesday.
Where do I see them before that?
On the day you buy (T day), the trade shows in your Positions / Portfolio as a bought position — not yet in Holdings, because the shares haven't settled into your demat account. This is normal; nothing is missing.
Can I sell them before they're in my Holdings?
- The same day — only as an Intraday trade (see what Intraday is); you can't sell them as Delivery until they've settled.
- The next day, before they're credited — selling shares you haven't yet received carries a short-delivery risk if the exchange doesn't deliver them to you in time. See can a short delivery happen even if it's not my fault.
