Can I take a new trade while I hold a T+5 position?

Not with the same funds. A T+5 position leaves an unpaid debit in your trading ledger, and T+5 is interest-free time to hold that position — it does not give you extra buying power to open another trade. To free up funds for a new trade, you first need to either clear the debit or exit the T+5 position.

Why can't I place a new trade?

When you buy on T+5, your available funds are used first and the remaining amount becomes a debit in your ledger. That debit stays until you pay it off or sell the position. T+5 gives you interest-free days to hold the stock; it is not additional margin, so the funding already tied up in a T+5 position is not available to open a new one.

What are my options to take a new trade?

  1. Clear the debit — add funds to your ledger to cover the outstanding amount. Once the debit is cleared, the position becomes a normal Delivery holding and your buying power frees up. See How do I add funds to my account?.
  2. Exit the current position — square off (sell) the T+5 position. Once it settles, the funds are released and you can place a new trade. See How do I square off a position?.

Important: Any funds you add go toward clearing the existing debit first. To actually open a new trade, you need funds beyond the debit amount.
