Why does OHLC data differ between live charts and the market watch?

The Open, High, Low, and Close (OHLC) shown in the market watch can differ from the OHLC on a live chart, because the two get their data in different ways.

Live chart vs market watch

  • A live chart builds each candle from a limited number of trades received per second. It's a continuous, real-time view, but it doesn't capture every single trade — so its OHLC is based on a sample.
  • The market watch streams the complete daily OHLC directly from the exchange, including all trades. Because it includes every trade, its daily OHLC is the more accurate figure.

Good to know

  • The market watch OHLC is a daily figure — it applies to the whole trading day, not to a minute or hourly candle. So compare it against the chart's daily OHLC, not an intraday candle.
  • Small differences during the day are normal — the daily figures settle once the exchange's end-of-day data is imported after the market closes.
  • For the definitive OHLC of a day, rely on the market watch or the daily chart.
